Program Description 2/3
------------------------------------------------------------
Beat The System to improve your academic performance. Role-
play at several levels of thinking as a teacher, student,
pupil, and tourist.
For students, parents, and teachers. Individual or groups
can play. For middle school, high school, college or adult
level.
No computer skills are needed to review. Sample public
domain question files on physical science, entomology, and
biology are included. Other files available from game
players: students, teachers, disk vendors and BBSes.
Edit these question files to match your OWN course. Each
review starts at the lowest levels of thinking. The goal is
to get the highest score with the highest quality, to answer
by querying rather than by rote memorizing answers.
Learn to question and to obtain what you need to know or do
to complete a task or an assignment. Write your own
question file to learn and prepare for assessment exercises.
Be an entrepreneur. Create, share, trade, and sell question
files on any topic or skill that can be reduced to
descriptive terms. Upload and download question files.
[The Sanitarium (Missouri) BBS, 816-582-8581, is operated by
a high school student.] Be prepared for the old forced-
choice tests and the new free-choice assessments in any
subject.
The goal is to create a higher quality, more meaningful
review than the course test. In short, to beat the old
academic game.
Game elements include critical reading, critical thinking,
concept mapping, and writing (paragraphs and high quality
questions) that can be used in folders for authentic and
performance assessment when incorporated into a course.
When the questions are edited by your teacher and
administered as a free-choice test (or on a computer with
INSIGHT), a high quality score is obtained based on what
you value, know or can do (can report with confidence).
Three ways to win: (1) you become a successful scholar,
(2) have fun, create an award winning instructional question
file, and (3) profit, get paid. Passive pupils become
successful scholars. Change from wanting to guess on
forced-choice tests to wanting to report what you really
know or can do by free-choice assessment.

Program Support 3/3
------------------------------------------------------------
Program support for registered users is available by
phone, CompuServe, and mail:

a student club, students helping students. Create
instructional question files for INSIGHT and for the next to
be released program, "Rock Grove No. 1", the arcade game
version of INSIGHT.
BTS-Equalizer can be registered by a group, a club, or a
sponsoring teacher rather than by each student.
